In King Lear two of the characters are very bad at making decisions.Because no matter how much our society changes since Shakespeare's time, we recognise the characters in his play because of the "universal ideas". This is why this play has "endured" (lasted a long time). People in ancient Greece would know other people who are like the characters in King Lear, and we know people like them today as well in western civilization. The "universal ideas" means the ideas that Shakespeare explores in King Lear are recognised by people in every society in the world, and in every time period. This is why Shakespeare is so popular even today - because the way people behave in his plays is how they still behave now. People behave the same way today as they did hundreds, even thousands of years ago. The two statements there basically say this: There are a number of other subs that discuss the various theories that someone other than the man from Stratford wrote the works attributed to William Shakespeare. Shakespeare may have been a master at murdering people with words, but as the late, great Chadwick Boseman said, "We don't do that here." Keep it civil, please.
